A variety of local scholarships are
available based on academic performance and/or need.
Students may complete the student profile available
in the Counseling Office.
Other scholarships may be
available in the Soquel High School Counseling Department.

The Art Institutes
National Scholarships -- A variety of art scholarships
are available through the Art Institutes, located in
29 major cities across
the US and Canada. Contact the Art Institute location
of your choice or call 1-800-275-2440.
Elks National Foundation -- Emergency Educational
Grants -- Assistance for children of Elks who are deceased or totally incapacitated.
Student must be unmarried, have financial need, be
under the age of 23, and be a full time undergraduate student. Contact the Elks

Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarships --
For young women who have achieved the Gold Award in Girl Scouting. Must be a
high school senior. Applicants judged on Academics,
activities, leadership, community
involvement, and pursuit of individual interests. Eight $6000 ($1500/yr) scholarships.

Terrassist Foundation
Michael Lee Environmental Fund -- Graduating seniors from
Santa Cruz or Santa Clara County Public High Schools wishing to study environmental
sciences or technologies at an accredited college
or university. Applications are available in the scholarship drawer and instructions
are available at the Foundation's Website. One award of $2500, one award of $1000,
and one award of $750. Minimum 2.8 G.P.A., U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien status.
Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce -- One $500
scholarship for school year available to a female high school senior in SC County
who intends to attend a SC County university or college and
pursue a degree in a business field. Student must be affiliated with a SC Chamber
of Commerce business (work for, own, or be an immediate relative of a SC Chamber
business). Essay, recommendations, school attendance, and recent grade report
required. Applications available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling
office.
DeVry University -- Offers various scholarships
depending on SAT or ACT scores. Visit DeVry’s
website for more information. Deadlines vary depending on scholarship
Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation --
Scholarships range
from $1000-$6000. Applicants must be legal residents of the U.S. and accepted
at any accredited, post secondary institution. Criteria are
based on ability (G.P.A. and aptitude tests), activities, and financial need.
Omega Nu -- Applications are available
in the scholarship drawer in
the
counseling
office. This is a local scholarship open to seniors planning on attending a public
CA
state college or university. Overall G.P.A. of 3.0 or better, letter of recommendation,
short biography, and financial information required.
California Wine Grape Growers Foundation --
Two scholarships of $1000/year for
four years and four scholarships
providing $500/year are offered. Only the children of vineyard workers employed
in the 2004 or 2005 winegrape growing season are eligible to apply. Applications
are available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office or online at
the website. Applications are available
in English and Spanish.
Wayne Richards Memorial Scholarship --
One $500 scholarship to a male student-athlete and one $500 scholarship to a
female student-athlete in Santa Cruz County. Two
additional scholarships of $250
go to either a male or female student athlete. Applicants must have a 3.0 G.P.A.
or better, be enrolled in a university, college, or trade school full time
in the Fall, be involved in School or community affairs, and be a citizen of
the
United States. Applications are available in the scholarship drawer in the
counseling office.
American Iris Society -- One $500.00 Horticulture/Floriculture
scholarship for a student from the area covering Northern CA, Nevada, and Hawaii.
Applications
are available in the scholarship
drawer in the counseling office.
The Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County --
Scholarships are awarded
out of
eight funds managed by the Community Foundation.
Students may obtain more information on the website
or by calling the Community
Foundation at 477-1264, ext. 221 and talking to Kate Brovarney.
McNellis Partners --
One $5000 scholarship. Open only to SENIORS GRADUATING FROM SOQUEL HIGH SCHOOL
WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED A STRONG INTEREST IN LEADERSHIP. Minimum
overall G.P.A.
of 3.0, official transcript, economically disadvantaged (parent’s W-2 or
tax returns sufficient), and students must be active in at least one social program
either at school or in the community during the past year and provide verification
of such. A written statement minimum of 500 words and letter of recommendation
are required. Proof of acceptance from an accredited college or university is
required.

P.Y Wen Scholarships College of Business --
San Francisco State University. Scholarship for seniors who are entering the
SFSU College of Business for their
freshman year. Applicants must be CA residents, full-time student majoring in
business, have a minimum G.P.A. 3.25, and have financial need as determined by
the SFSU Office of Student Financial Aid. The amount of award is equivalent to
full-time university enrollment fees for the fall and spring academic year. Applications
are available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office or you may e
mail _busbrc@sfsu.edu_ with questions. Please put “P.Y. Wen Scholarship
application request” in
the e mail subject line.
Boys and Girls Club Scholarship -- Applicants
must be current or former Boys and Girls Club members who plan on pursuing a
full time education after
high
school
graduation. Applications are available in the scholarship
drawer in the counseling office. Amount of scholarship varies from $100-$500.
Monterey Bay Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO Scholarship --
Applicant must be
a
dependent or child of a member of any union properly affiliated with the Monterey
Bay Central Labor Council. 3.0 minimum G.P.A., transcript,
and completed application. Applications are available in the scholarship drawer
in the counseling office.
California Labor Federation -- $2000
scholarships open to seniors who plan to enroll in an accredited college or
technical school in 2005. Essay
topic, 1000 words, “Describe
a significant impact that unions have had in the last fifty years and how your
community has benefited from it”. Applications are available in the scholarship
drawer in the counseling office.
Santa Cruz Council of Classified Employees CFT AFT AFL-CIO Local 6084 --
Applicants must be dependents or children of members of SCCCE (Santa Cruz Council
of Classified
Employees). Minimum 3.0 G.P.A., transcripts, letters ofrecommendation
required. Applicants must submit a statement, which can be verified, indicating
any participation in community service or extra curricular activities. Applications
are available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office.
Albert E. Wright Scholarship -- Greater
Santa Cruz Federation of Teachers AFL/CIO Local 2030 One or more scholarships
each year ranging from $500 -
$1000. Eligibility is based on your intent to become a teacher, counselor,
library media teacher,
school nurse, or other certificated person in education. The selection committee
reviews a student’s transcript, school and community activities, interests,
and any special circumstances the student is willing to share. Applications
are available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office. Must submitted
to the union office.
California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers --
Monterey Bay Chapter One $4000 scholarship to a student entering a four year
institution
and four $500 book scholarships for students enrolled in Community
College or higher horticulture programs. Scholarships may be divided between
qualified applicants. Students must demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing
a Horticulture related career and be resident of the Monterey Bay C.A.N.G.C.
chapter (includes
Santa Cruz and Monterey counties). Applications are available in the scholarship
drawer in the counseling office.
Cabrillo Civic Clubs of California --
$400 scholarships to students of Portuguese descent. Student must be of Portuguese
descent on their father
or mother’s side and permanent residents of
the U.S. Minimum 3.5 G.P.A., transcript, participation in at least 3 extra
curricular activities, three letters of recommendation. Applications are
available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling office.
Robert G. Porter Scholars Program --
American Federation of Teachers AFL – CIO Four-year, $8000 Post secondary scholarship. Student applicant
must be an AFT member’s dependent and a graduating high school senior.
The parent or guardian must be an AFT member for at least one year. No full-
or part-time
AFT staff, state or local, may apply. Applications are available in the scholarship
drawer in the counseling office.
San Jose State University ALUMNI scholarship Santa
Cruz Area Chapter -- $500-$2000 one-time and renewable scholarships
to local high school students. Applicant must have 3.0 G.P.A., be enrolled
at SJSU full-time,
starting in the fall of 2005, provide two letters of recommendation, provide
a current transcript, show evidence of involvement in school and/or community
affairs, provide evidence of partial self support to help cover educational
expenses. Submit application to Soquel High counseling office.
California Alarm Association -- For
children of law enforcement and fire service personnel. In Northern CA, one
$1000 scholarship and one
$750
scholarship. Applicants judged on GPA,
SAT scores, essay, academic prizes, awards, hobbies, school and outside extracurricular
activities. Applications are available in the scholarship drawer in the counseling
office.
