KNIGHT NOTES RESUMES

IMPORTANT DATES
*New Student Orientation -- Mon. Aug. 24, 9-11 a.m. in the gym.
*New Parent Orientation -- Mon., Aug. 24, 6:30-8 p.m  in the multi-use room .
*First Day of School -- Weds., Aug. 26. All students to campus at 8:40 a.m.
*Picture Day --Mon., Aug. 31
*Soquel High Fund meeting -- Tues., Sept. 1,  7 p.m. in the Soquel High library.
*SAT Seminar -- Sat., Oct. 3 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Soquel High.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL INFO
The orientation for freshmen and new students is Monday, Aug. 24, from 9-11 a.m.
Meet in the Gym. Parents meet that evening from 6:30-8 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. You will receive information about school policies and rules, graduation requirements, athletics and activities.

First Day of School is Wednesday, Aug. 26. No first period classes will meet on the first day of school.  School will begin with A2 classes starting at 8:40 a.m. (the day ends at 2:45 p.m.). Lists will be up around campus informing students where to report for A2.  During A2, full schedules as well as school planners will be distributed.

The first day will be a 'C' day with all classes meeting.  Thursday Aug. 27 will be an 'A' day with periods A2, A3, A4 meeting and Friday Aug. 28 will be a 'B' day with B5, B6, B7 meeting.

Students will also receive on Aug. 26 information that in previous years had been sent home in a summer mailer.  Due to staff and budget cuts, Soquel High School will no longer be able to send this information home. Some of the handouts that will be distributed during A2 will be informational only.  Others will require a parent/guardian signature as well as additional information and must be returned to Soquel High School by Monday, Aug. 31, to their A2 teachers.

Forms that will need to be completed and turned in on Aug. 31 are:
  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Internet Use Agreement
  • Locker Use Agreement
  • Insurance coverage
  • Attendance Policy
  • Emergency form
  • Pupil Health History (grades 10-12 only)

Picture Day will be Monday, Aug. 31; order forms will be distributed in A2 on Aug. 26.

BEAT THE TEST
Get pumped up for the SAT or PSAT! Take Beat the Test! on Saturday, Oct. 3, and get ready for the October 10 SAT or the October PSAT! Learn how to handle critical reading passages, tricky math problems, the essay, test-day anxiety, and much more! The one-day seminar is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and costs Only $20. All proceeds go to Soquel High School.

The workshop is open to all grade levels. Participants get a Beat the Test! packet and pencils. Bring snacks for a snack break. Presented by Raise Your Score, www.raiseyourscore.net. SOQUEL SPORTS FOUNDATION NEWS:
PURCHASE YOUR AD FOR THE SCCAL FOOTBALL JAMBOREE:  For more details, call right away 831-475-8884. It goes to printers 8/25.

BINGO - Come play bingo and support your Knights!  Every Tuesday at the SC Elks Lodge, 150 Jewell St.in Santa Cruz.  Doors open at 5 p.m.  We are also looking for bingo callers - call Gene Cutler if you can help - 465-1604 (1x month or 2x month).  We are  accepting volunteers to earn money toward all programs.  Sports, drama, teachers, any group at SHS can volunteer and earn money. The guaranteed payout is $200 (1st time) and $250 (future) plus you get 50% of the donations.  The amount raised by volunteers is roughly $6k since April...come earn money and have fun too!

We will only see our group donated dollars.

MONTE FIREWORKS - Purchase your card today for $15. The event is October 3.  This year, purchasing tickets the day of the event will be $30 due to the bands that will be playing.  We are also looking for volunteers for snack bar and game booth.

SOUVENIRS - We will have souvenirs and order forms available at the 9th grade orientation and also available at home football games.  (Football and non-football - license plates, stickers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc).  Support your Knights!

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN - We are close to breaking ground on a new entrance to the stadium. If you'd like to get involved in helping with this project and the new snack-bar/bathrooms project, please call John David 332-2881.  Donations of time/material needed!  Call and let us know how you can help us get this accomplished!

PARENT INVOLVEMENT = STUDENT SUCCESS
The Soquel High Fund offers a way for you to stay involved, meet other parents, and help to make Soquel High a better place for your student. We are a group of parents,community members, alumni and staff committed to improving academic, art and athletic programs at our great high school.

With the District and our school facing severe budget cuts, it is even more important than ever for our parent community to help out.  This coming year will be very challenging, and we will need new ideas and people in order to sustain our basic academic, art and athletic programs at Soquel High.

Please join us at our next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Soquel High library.
