GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS Registrar’s Office – Closed today Friday 2/5 and will reopen Monday 2/8 at 8:30a Pancake Breakfast – The Soquel High Music Foundation is hosting their event tomorrow Saturday, 2/6 in the MU Room from 7-11a. Please join us to raise funds for their music activities and scholarships. All you can eat pancakes, coffee, and juice for only $5 per person! Musical entertainment will be provided by the Band and Chorus throughout the morning. New Schedules – Remember that you must go to the classes on your schedule. Do not start attending another class until you have been formally notified by your Counselor of any changes. If you go to another class without being on the teacher’s roll, you will be marked absent unexcused and have to go to Saturday School. Winter Formal – Non-student guest applications are now available in the Front Office (the pink forms on the far right at the back wall next to the Knight!). February 10th will be the last day to turn them in (and February 11th is the last day bids will be for sale). Complete BOTH sides and please return them to Tjoni during Break in the Security Office as soon as possible in order to get the cheapest pricing on your bids. The following is required to become eligible to attend Formal:
Saturday School – We are now back to the regular schedule, so be sure to attend at the usual time and in the usual place (8:30a-12:30p in the Library on Saturday). (Also, see bolded sentence in the above Winter Formal announcement.) Formal – A Knight in Space on February 19th at the Cocoanut Grove. If you have ASB Stickers, your tickets are discounted when you purchase them at the Attendance Office so you can save money! The prices go up again next week, so buy quickly!! Go look through the halls for prices and details. Front Office Aides – Anyone interested in helping out in the Front Office, there are still a few openings left…specifically A2 and A3. If you have good attendance, no behavior referrals, and grades of As and Bs only, please stop by and see Cheryl. She’d love to have you sign up. Electronic Devices – Students, please do not use electronic devices during class time. If you have an electronic device confiscated by a school official, you must make an appointment for a parent/student conference with an Administrator before it is returned. IF you HAVE to bring your electronic devices to school, please keep them in a secure place. Electronic devices are stolen every day, and many of these can be avoided if you take some extra precautions in securing them. Better yet, leave them at home. Skateboarders – Now that lockers have been distributed, there is no reason for skateboarding on campus!! Infinite Campus – Make sure you are checking Infinite Campus for your attendance. If you neglect to check it, you will be unable to make corrections after three days, and you will have to live with the outcome. See Ms. Britton or Mr. LaBarre in the Library if you need help with your account. Grad Night – Tickets will be going on sale each first and third Friday during Brunch and Lunch by the circle out front. Don’t delay. That means TODAY!! Scholarships – If you plan to attend San Jose State University in the Fall, scholarship opportunities are available. Please see your Counselor for more information. Application deadline is March 31, 2010. The Omega Nu Scholarship application is here as well. Please stop by the Counseling Office if you are a senior with a 3.0-or-above GPA. Don’t miss out on free money! Counseling “Sound Blast” – February is Business and Information Systems Month. Are you able to do a lot of things at once and can keep track of each one? Do you make order out of chaos? You might be perfect as an Administrative Assistant or Executive Secretary. There are many different types of businesses that need people with your skills. Even the White House! What does it take to be good in this field? Check out www.cacareerzone.com or talk with your Counselor. Career Technical Education. It pays! Yearbook/Seniors – We have extended the date for your parents to submit and buy you a special “shout out” in the back of the book. This is the last week they will be available! Act now! Summer Jobs – Come see the Rep for the Summer Youth Employment Program in the Library Conference Room during Lunch on Monday 2/8/10. Classes ROP – Ever heard about our great ROP classes here? We offer classes like Floral Design, Computer Graphics, and Sports-Related Occupations that provide hands-on learning experiences and real-life career skills for your future. ROP stands for Regional Occupational Program and offers exciting, career-oriented classes here at Soquel High! Want to learn more about Environmental Horticulture or Veterinary Science? These 2 classes meet the UC A-G requirements! ROP has 14 fabulous off-campus classes as well as the great ROP classes at SHS! These career-oriented classes include Fire Science, Culinary Arts, Fashion Design, Health Careers, and Engine Repair to name just a few. Come find out about what ROP can offer you next Tuesday, 2/9 during Brunch in the First Quad at our ROP Recruiting Fair.
Spring Sports – All athletes for Boys Golf, Lacrosse, Track, Swimming, Baseball, Softball, Boys Tennis, and Boys Volleyball…See the coaches or Mr. Walters if you would like to try out. You must have a physical exam and your paperwork complete BEFORE you can participate. Find and download the paperwork on the Soquel High website. Turn all paperwork into Mr. Walters. Baseball – All players, please know that tryouts have started (Monday 2/1) and that you must have clearance with Coach Walters to participate. Lacrosse – Important announcement!! Practice times have changed: Tomorrow Saturday 2/6 AND next Saturday 2/13 from 10a-1p will be special practice sessions. Regular practices will officially resume Wednesday 2/17 from 5-7p. See you there! Boys Tennis – We need players!! If interested in the Boys Tennis team, come to the tennis courts at 3pm or see Mr. Worthington in Room 325. We need tennis players! |
