The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan

Save the Dates! May 18, 19, 20, 2012 for a wacky and irreverent SHS version of The Pirates of Penzance, in this fresh take of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular comic operetta. This hilarious farce has sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-witted young lovers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the ridiculous dictates of honor and duty.

Can catastrophe be averted? Will love prevail? Of course, but not before Gilbert and Sullivan fire a few broadsides at social stuffiness in this rollicking musical that has music, paradox and silliness delivered with wit as sharp as a pirate’s cutlass.

Suitable for all playgoers 6 and up.
Running time: approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Tickets will be available from cast members and at the door-General admission-$12/ seniors/ASB-$10. Reserved seating $15. Contact Maggie Kline, SHS, for more information: 831 429-3909 x158.

Measures I & J

On June 5th, local voters will be asked to vote on Measures I & J.  These tax measures, $85 for the elementary district and $38 for the high school district, will replace measures A & B, which expire June 30, 2013.  Ballot language will commit funds to the priorities funded by the current measures: retaining high quality teachers, retaining art and music teachers in our elementary schools, providing academic counseling to prepare students for college and help at-risk students stay on the right track, and keeping our school libraries open and served by certificated librarians. All of the dollars raised will stay in local schools.  It will take a 2/3 majority to pass these measures.  If they do not pass, the district will lose about 2.5 million dollars in revenues and programs in 2013-14.  For more information, you can consult http://www.votescount.com/jun12/lm.htm#meai
